Juan Guaidó, Venezuela’s would-be interim president, has been encouraging the country’s military to ditch President Nicolás Maduro as violent clashes escalated this weekend over aid shipments at the country’s border with Colombia. But Maduro can still count on the unswerving loyalty of the colectivos, thousands of heavily armed militiamen who’ve been cracking down on dissenters and keeping foreign aid from entering the country. Trained during Hugo Chavez’s presidency, the militants have been acting as enforcers of government policy for years, intimidating or killing people who don’t fall in line. We met up with some of them to hear about the battle at the border. Jeden 6. Tag wird in der Cauca-Region in Kolumbien ein Indigener des Nasa-Volkes getötet, als sogenannter Kollateralschaden des Drogenkriegs, als gezielte Aktion der Paramilitärs. Diskriminierung, Schikane und Rassismus, damit leben die Nasa jeden Tag. Während der Corona-Pandemie wurden sie in den Krankenhäusern nicht einmal richtig behandelt. Die Regierung kümmert sich nicht um die Probleme der 185.000 Indigenen. Sie regeln deshalb alles selbst. Auf dem Höhepunkt der Pandemie errichteten sie Straßensperren rund um ihr Stammesgebiet. Keiner kam mehr rein oder raus, ohne von den Nasa kontrolliert oder desinfiziert zu werden. Nur 976 Indigene wurden krank, drei starben. In ganz Kolumbien infizierten sich 1,2 Millionen Menschen, 32.000 starben. Um auf ihre Probleme aufmerksam zu machen, fuhren im Herbst zunächst 8.000 Indigene auf der Pamericana los, zunächst nach Cali und dann weiter in die Landeshauptstadt Bogota. Sie wollten dort persönlich mit dem Präsidenten reden. Auf dem Weg dorthin schlossen sich ihnen immer mehr Menschen an. Auf dem Plaza de Bolívar in Bogotá protestieren schließlich eine Million Menschen gegen die Regierung, die Corona-Krise und den Zustand des Landes.
